You may login either by OpenID or by Email address. Both options require an additional email authentication step, but OpenID requires it only for the first login. OpenID is the more convenient of the two; email login is provided only as a fallback.
Alternatively you may login by Alias. This method requires no email authentication and no password. It provides the same access as an authenticated user, but is suitable only for test and trial use. Any information that you input may be modified by other users, and all of it will eventually be erased by the administrator.
Most of the fields on the registration page are optional and may be left blank. The exception is the Residence field. You must enter a valid local address, or your registration will be barred from the list.
In addition, a certain level of trust might be required in order to get on the list. Trust is obtained from other voters in your neighborhood. To obtain a level of N requires the trust of N neighbors, each of whom is at a level of N or higher. To obtain a level of 2, for example, you must be trusted by 2 others, each of whom is at a level of 2. Once you obtain the necessary trust, your name will appear in the next compilation of the voter list.
Use the voter list to browse for potential trust sources in your own neighborhood. The range of trust extension is limited, so the sources must be located nearby. Before requesting trust from a neighbor, therefore, you may wish to test the range by extending your own trust to that neighbor. To extend your trust, go to the neighbor's home page and click on the Trust link.
Go to the poll page for the particular poll you wish to vote in. Click on a candidate, and press the Vote button. If you cannot find the candidate you are looking for, then enter her email address manually, and press Vote. You can vote for anyone. Your vote will be counted in the next tally of the poll results.
If the candidate is unregistered, then you might wish to consider pre-registration. Go to the candidate's home page, and select the Registration tab. If the candidate has never before registered, and if you are logged in, and your trust level is high enough, then the Submit button will be enabled. Pre-registration is always optional. The only purpose is to inform the other voters of the candidate's identity. After submitting the form, press the Identity tab to see the results.
Go to the poll page for the particular poll you wish to receive votes in. Click on the candidate for whom you are currently voting. A trace of your vote appears with you on the left, the end-candidate on the right, and any intermediate delegates in between. Next to each is a
link that takes you to that person's position draft in the wiki. Go to your own position draft, and enter the details of your position. For example, if it is an electoral poll, then explain why you are seeking votes for office.
Or, if it is a normative poll, then compose the text of the law, plan or policy that you propose. You may copy the text from another candidate and amend it with your own ideas. You may also collaborate with other wiki users, including your own voters.
In addition to receiving votes for your position, you may continue to cast a vote of your own as a delegate. Your chosen candidate will receive not only your vote, but also those of your voters. If you shift your vote to another candidate, then those of your voters will follow automatically. Any voter who disagrees with this will be free to withdraw her vote and shift it elsewhere, according to her own choice.
